Purpose |
The thinking skill we were specifically focusing on this project cycle was perspective. I had a pretty good idea what I thought about my own organization and I wanted to know what other perspectives were out there. How did different cultures think about organization differently? How do my friends and peers think about organization? Do they even think about it?
Process
First I began to research different cultures and how they think about organization. I specifically looked at American culture and Asian culture. I found that a lot of American concepts of organization have to do with efficiency and how useful a space is for things yet to come. In contrast, most Asian concepts had to do with things you really loved and cherished from the past as well as the energy of the room in the present.
Then I began to work on my english project planning my day and journaling each day. Along the way I was also organizing my bedroom with the two different styles I had researched previously. Along with this I developed questions to ask my classmates for my social studies project. I then got the pictures and analyzed them using what I knew about different cultures and what was important to them when it came to organization.

Product
Social Studies For my social studies product I asked some of my friends a series of questions about what was important to them in their room. Also how their background affected their room and how their room affected them. I also got pictures of their bedrooms which were, quite literally, their own personal perspectives. Lastly I analyzed both their responses and their pictures through two different "lenses." I looked at everything with both the American style of organization and the Asian style as well.

EnglishFor my english product I looked at my own perspective when it came to organizing not only my space but my time as well. I planned out my day and the project went along I used increasingly more detailed ways to do this. I started out by writing out something similar to a "to-do" list. Then I transitioned to planning out my day almost hour by hour in the same notebook. Finally I used google calendar and planned with a lot of detail so I would also get updates on my phone. I also journaled throughout this process to show my perspective. The detail found in these journals mirrored the detail when it came to planning my day. First only bullet point, then a paragraph a day, and finally I was journalling for a solid ten minutes a day. I also organized my room when I had the time and wrote about that in my journal as well.
