Purpose |
For this project we were required to think about contextualization. I also wanted to be able to use what I learn in this project and apply it in my life outside of school. I decided to learn more about leadership theories and what makes a leader effective in different settings.
Process
First, I had to get a base of understanding to build my project on. Most of the research work fell under the social studies part of my project. I read through a scholarly report on different theories of effective leadership throughout history and took detailed notes to actually comprehend what I was reading. Then I got to work brainstorming ideas for what exactly my final social studies project would look like. I decided on the two factors, the three time periods, and the four leaders I would look at. In retrospect, I took on too much to handle. I should have looked at a narrow scope and gone into more detail. Then I started creating questions for my interview. This process heavily relied on the information found in my social studies portion. If I were to do this differently a second time, I would try to separate the english and social studies portions a little more so when I needed a break, I could switch subjects. Next, I conducted my interview with Coach Oswalt. Lastly, I assembled all the pieces and put together both my final english and social studies products.
Product
Social StudiesHere I put together a series of graphs/charts that focus on the context of leadership theories throughout time. I also re-contextualize the different leaders and think about how effective they would be in different time periods where different traits are more valuable.

EnglishI interviewed our football coach and talked to him about what makes him an effective leader in his position. I looked at the context of his leadership and why it was necessary and inquired about what would happen if he used a different style.
